How we measure you

Every important number in Sobo — how recovered you are, how hard you trained, how much sleep you need, how many calories you burned — is the output of a deliberate algorithm grounded in exercise physiology and peer-reviewed science. We don’t think numbers that shape your training and health should be black boxes. So here is the reasoning behind each one: the inputs, the formulas, the constants, and the limits we’re honest about.

You may not agree with every choice we made — and that’s fine. The point is that you can always see the choice, and the logic behind it.

One system

How it all fits together

These metrics aren’t independent — they form a loop. Get one wrong and the error propagates, which is why we sweat the details on each and show our work on all of them.

  • Sleepis the largest single input toRecovery
  • Recoveryscales yourStrain
  • Strainfeeds back into how muchSleep you need
  • Heart rateis the shared signal under Strain, Recovery, sleep staging, andCalories

Each page ends with a “What we’re honest about” section, and we mean it. These are population models running on consumer-sensor data — carefully built and defensible, but estimates, most useful as trends over time rather than exact single readings. If a number looks wrong to you for something you know well, tell us.
